EMPLOYMENT SERVICES

Here are the services we provide:
  • individualized bilingual employment counselling
  • career decision-making
  • job search strategies
  • computers for résumé and cover letter writing
  • aptitude, interest and personality assessments
  • resource library and labour market information
  • assistance in applying for funding for training
  • referrals to other community agencies as needed
  • on the job placement and training subsidy for employers
  • assist International trained individuals
  • information on apprenticeships

POWER OF EXPERIENCE PROGRAM (PEP)

The PEP is a Targeted Initiative for Older Workers (TIOW) which focuses on workers over 55 years of age who are looking for work, wanting to gain new skills, or exploring self-employment. The PEP also offers placement services to employers who value the contribution of these workers and the power of experience.

This well-timed and essential program offers:

  • individualized and group employment counselling and job search strategies
  • career decision making tools and support
  • aptitude, interest and personality assessments
  • peer support and networking
  • direct referrals to employers
  • placement and training subsidies for employers
  • public education on the merit and significance of mature workers
  • access to computers, fax and photocopying

The Power of Experience Program hosts General Information Sessions every Thursday at 2:30pm. Please call and register in advance.

EDUCATIONAL and WORKPLACE TRAINING

Educational and Workplace Training provides quality instruction to people who want to improve their basic reading, writing, math and computer skills, which they need in their day to day life. Educational and Workplace Training respects a person's privacy. Educational and Workplace Training involves the person in all parts of programming. There is no cost for the literacy services.

Programs offered:

  • One-to-One Volunteer Tutoring
    provides learner with one-to-one instruction with a trained tutor, individualized program in reading, writing, math and computer skills volunteers meet with learners at convenient times and locations.

  • Literacy for Youth (16 - 24)
    provides the learner with an individualized program in reading, writing, math and computer skills learners may be experiencing difficulties or have left high school and want to upgrade.

  • Literacy for Adults
    Literacy for those working toward further education and training, self improvement and job readiness. Instruction takes place in a class with no more than 10 learners and those with basic skills are assisted in their upgrading.
